Extremism Prevention

01.06.2024 – 31.12.2025

In 2024, the Oxus Association continued its efforts with the project aimed at “preventing extremism” within the Afghan diaspora in Austria. This project consists of a series of TV shows and informative reports designed to provide valuable information and raise awareness within the Afghan diaspora community.

One of the most effective strategies for preventing extremism is fostering a strong sense of belonging among refugees to their host country. Therefore, this project focuses on enhancing refugees’ connection to their new home, promoting understanding of new cultures and diverse communities in Austria, and advocating for respect toward women and sexual minorities.

Following the Taliban’s rise to power in Afghanistan and the increase in their propaganda on social media, concerns grew in Austria about the rise of extremist tendencies within the Afghan diaspora. In response, the Oxus Association launched a project in 2023 aimed at preventing extremism, particularly among young refugees. This initiative is designed to promote peaceful coexistence and address the negative consequences of extremism.

The first phase of the project concluded in 2023, and the second phase began in 2024. Funded by the Austrian Ministry of Social Affairs, the project will continue until the end of 2025, with the goal of creating a long-lasting impact by fostering a more empathetic and informed community.
