Annual Report, 31.12.2019
As a not-for-profit organization we strive to be accountable and disseminate information about our activities as much as possible. For this reason, Oxus makes its annual reports public sharing details of its activities and achievements during the one-year reporting period. 2019 like the previous year was a year with several milestones at Oxus. Staff at Oxus worked on different media projects.
- Establishing Oxus TV was one of the most challenging initiatives during this year. However, the first phase was successfully implemented. This achievement is not only boosting moral support to our colleagues at Oxus but, the project is also an important contribution to our focus on Afghanistan. Oxus TV is the only Persian language media for Afghans in Austria.
- In 2019 as in previous years, we worked with other organizations namely, IOM, VIDC, Caritas, Flamme des Friedens, the social democrat political party, and the Afghan Embassy based in Vienna.
- Also in 2019 OXUS participated in the first Europe-level conference that was hosted by the Danish Asylum Council to support Afghan-led organizations and associations.
- In 2019, Oxus participated and supported the mock election organized by SOS Mitmensch.
- Abdulrab Habibyar, our colleague was recognized for his cultural activities and received the title of “peace hero” from the Peace Museum Vienna. This reflects positive development in the whole Afghan community in Austria.
Some of the above and many more activities by Oxus were also reflected by other media outlets in Austria. Das Biber dedicated a whole page for the activities of Oxus that is titled “Be like Tanya Kaihan” reflecting the works done by Oxus’s chairwoman and founder Tanya Kaihan. In addition, the publication presented Tanya as a role model for Afghans and considers the Afghan community in Austria more active than that of Syrians in the job market.
We hope the new year is as exciting and full of achievements as 2019 at OXUS while at the same time, it will be a year of peace and less violence for Afghanistan.
Happy new year!
