The year 2024 was a year filled with significant and lasting achievements for the Oxus Association. In this year, we succeeded in collaborating with the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Austrian Development Agency to implement two relatively large media projects, as well as two other projects in cooperation with the VIDC Institute and the Green Migrants of Vienna. These projects were important steps in supporting Afghan women, integrating refugees into the host society, and preventing extremism among the Afghan diaspora in Austria.

One of the standout projects of this year was the TV Show “Einsame Kämpferinnen,” which, by focusing on the stories and challenges of Afghan women and girls, in both German and Farsi, garnered widespread attention. This Show not only reflected the harsh realities of these women’s lives but also encouraged Austrian institutions to take on future projects to support Afghan women.

One of the major concerns of the year was the increasing risk of young members of the Afghan diaspora being drawn into extremism. Given the rise of the Taliban and the increase in their online propaganda, concerns in this regard grew in Austria. Oxus, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs and the VIDC Institute, launched projects to prevent this trend. These projects included the production of informative shows and reports, with the main goal of preventing the recruitment of diaspora youth by extremist groups.

Furthermore, alongside efforts to integrate refugees into Austrian society, the Oxus Association also paid special attention to preserving and strengthening the cultural values and heritage of Farsi-speaking communities. The production of cultural shows, such as the Yalda Night and Nowruz celebrations, are examples of the association’s actions to protect cultural values and foster a sense of belonging among refugees.

For Oxus, 2024 was a year of effort, influence, and significant achievements—one that demonstrated how targeted actions can amplify women’s voices, preserve culture, and create safer communities.
